Morality shapes culture – not vice versa. Customs may differ from society to society, but moral values, being eternal and universally applicable, cannot so differ. Master has said that once Master told him, “However high a person may have risen in spirituality, if he is immoral, even the breath of spirituality has not touched him, according to me.” Spirituality cannot exist without morality. Morality is indeed the rock-like foundation upon which the solid structure of spirituality has to be erected. Morality must be considered as a basic value of human existence, very much like breathing!
