A child is a book that you must learn to open and read. You don’t need information about parents and society and culture. With love, everything is open. Without love, everything is closed
I cannot be happy if everybody is unhappy. Can I be? I cannot be healthy if everybody around me is sick; and I cannot be wise if I am surrounded by fools. So my physical strength, my moral well-being and moral fibre, and my intellectual acumen, my knowledge, are there not for myself but to be used for the welfare of the world.
The real state of enlightenment comes when we come into the full consciousness of the condition of enlivenment and, after imbibing its effect, secure our merging in it. When we develop this state and merge into its consciousness, we come to know all about it and thus become gnani, i.e. enlightened, up to that extent.
True faith is really an unspeakable virtue which is beyond the scope of religion; it is the dauntless courage which leads us on to success; it is that ubiquitous force which makes our path smooth; it is in fact the only thing that solves our problem of life
We should never come to a hasty conclusion without due consideration and trial through the help of reason and experience. When we are finally convinced of the merits of the thing, we may stick to it with faith and constancy. Faith thus reposed shall be genuine and lasting, while faith promoted by inducement offered by outwardly attractive features and display of petty materialistic achievements is no faith at all
You can say that even love has an evolutionary course to run, and this should apply not only between the master and his disciples but even in our own personal relationships: between husband and wife, between father and son, between brother and brother. Because without sacrifice at every stage of our association – it may be a small sacrifice, it may be the ultimate sacrifice of life – true love is not expressed.
I have a certain conviction that when we eventually get there, if we do, we will find more souls there which have been women than men. Because two things which man cannot do, they do: they suffer, they sacrifice. And without these two things there is no love.
There can be no love without duties and responsibilities and no duty where there is no love. According to my Master , love and duty are but two sides of the same coin. Wherever they are split apart, and love alone exists without the sense of duty to the beloved, there are always unhappy and sometimes disastrous consequences. Where there is only duty without love, that could as well be done by a machine
That is what Jesus said when he let out the doves, as they say in the Bible, meant for sacrifice. He set them free. “Don’t kill them to show your love for God, set them free in your love for God.” So love must give freedom.
What brings us together must be our sameness, our oneness, our commonness. And all that distinguishes us, separates us, must be put away. God created us in various colours, various shapes, various sizes. That, we cannot change. But God did not create Hindus and Muslims and Christians and Buddhists. God did not create culture and language – these are ours
